This study explores power relations in household decision-making in Lopo Village, Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency. The research is motivated by the issue of gender inequality in decision-making processes within households and its impact on family well-being. A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews with six families selected through purposive sampling. Additionally, interviews were conducted with traditional community leaders in Lopo Village to enrich the data. The findings reveal that household decision-making is often dominated by one gender. In some households, the husband holds greater authority, whereas in others, the wife takes a more dominant role. Generally, husbands tend to make major financial decisions, such as purchasing assets, while wives exercise greater control over daily financial management. Regarding children's education, both spouses typically engage in discussions before making a final decision. Furthermore, male dominance in decision-making is frequently influenced by traditional perceptions that position men as the primary breadwinners. However, in certain cases, wives play a significant role in managing household finances and making operational decisions. This study concludes that open and effective communication between spouses is crucial for fostering inclusive decision-making processes. The findings suggest the need for increased public awareness of gender equality through educational initiatives and women's empowerment programs. Such efforts are expected to enhance the quality of family decision-making and contribute to the overall social welfare of the Lopo Village community.
